The development of Hazelton House is closely linked to the modern revival of the ancient craft of Hand Block printing. When the company was still at an embryonic stage, founder Budd Sugarman became aware of a unique unit producing furnishing fabrics in Lancashire, England using the Hand Block printing process. He was fascinated by the wonderful subtleties produced by the process of handblocking. The soft nuances and color gradations appealed to his aesthetic sensibilities and he found the historical patterns well suited to his unique style of interior design that blended contemporary with traditional and always used color to bold effect. He rightly recognized that others would share his love and appreciation of Hand Block printed fabrics.
